BA Newsletter 8/24

*SF's popscene turns 10 this Thursday with a very special live guest - THE KILLERS. Yeah, that band that usually plays very large venues is going to squeeze itself into the tiny by comparison 330 Ritch. For details on acquiring tickets to this event, head to www.popscene-sf.com

*MODEST MOUSE, complete with their new lineup featuring JOHNNY MARR, will release their next album on December 19th in the US, titled "We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank". Last album was about floating, this one's about sinking.

*Legendary 1960's Britpoppers THE ZOMBIES will make their first Boston appearance in many years on September 18 at the Axis, along with MOONEY SUZUKI, THE FLESHTONES and more. It's presented by Little Steven's Underground Garage radio show.

*BADLY DRAWN BOY will do a short US tour in October to push his upcoming "Born in the UK" album. He'll be at the Paradise in Boston on 10/10, Hiro Ballroom in NY on 10/11 and 10/12, and SF's Great American Music Hall on 10/16.

*MOJAVE 3 have announced 2 NYC shows on October 20 & 21 at Bowery Ballroom. These shows will sell out quickly, as Bowery shows are prone to doing.

*INTERPOL have signed with Capitol Records, who will release the band's third album and relieve Matador of their biggest selling artist. Expect the new disc sometime in 2007.

*THE CHARLATANS, not satisfied with the "Melting Pot" collection from a few years ago, have announced plans to release another best-of CD, this one titled "Forever - The Singles". So far there's only a UK release for the record, but the band's US label could opt to pick it up for American release.

*KEANE have cancelled the eastern leg of their upcoming US tour due to lead singer TONY CHAPLIN going into rehab for problems with drugs and alcohol. The band is saying the shows are postponements due for a re-scheduling later this year or early next. Maybe if we're lucky we'll get a few more RAZORLIGHT one-off shows out of this.

*THE KAISER CHIEFS are hard at work on their second album, with lead singer RICKY WILSON recovered from his pedestrian run-in with a moving car a few months back. The band promises the album will be free of "wooah"s, which occured frequently in such songs as "I Predict a Riot" and "Oh My God".

*THE SHINS will play Sub Pop's CMJ showcase on November 2 at the Bowery Ballroom along with THE ELECTED, CSS, OXFORD COLLAPSE, and others. Expect a line 3 blocks long for this one.

*For those Boston KILLERS fans out there, the band will return to the hub on October 26 with a show at the Orpheum.

*DEPECHE MODE will release another best of CD this fall entitled "Best Of" (how very creative). Right there's only a UK release date for it - November 13. There's also a new song on the collection called "Martyr", which will be released as a UK single.

*You can download the entire show on your iPod or iTunes (ala a podcast) by going to www.wmfo.org and clicking on British Accents "last show" on the schedule page.
