BA Newsletter 2.8.07

*British Accents once again has a new time slot - the show will return to a former time slot of 2-4pm (eastern) on Sunday afternoons, in a familiar place following "Galactic Fractures". The new schedule takes effect for this weekend, so tune in to hear new music from CHARLOTTE HATHERLEY, THE BLUETONES and much more.

*This week's bounty - a prize pack for THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE QUEEN, courtesy of The Fader and Cornerstone. 1 winner will receive a copy of the new album, a band poster, some stickers AND a rare, limited-pressing (500 only) 7" single from the Fader/Southern Comfort series. To win, be the first to respond with your full name, mailing address and answer to this question - what was the peak chart position of the "Herculean" single when it was released in the UK last fall?
While you're at it, check out the brand new Fader Magazine download and Podcast here: http://www.thefader.com/blog/articles/category/podcasts

*The full lineup for this year's South By Southwest music festival has been announced - check it out at www.sxsw.com - there's so many bands playing I couldn't possibly list them all. It would be easier to print a list of who's NOT playing.

*Speaking of THE BLUETONES, they'll release their first US album since 1996 on February 13 - the self-titled effort that came out in the UK last year. Cooking Vinyl is the label bringing us our first non-import taste of the band in 11 years, and will also be releasing SEAFOOD's latest effort on the same day.

*MORRISSEY fans are taking advantage of the UK chart authority's new rules on downloaded tracks counting toward the charts by making a push for the Moz track "Life is a Pigsty", from his album released last year. www.getmozinthecharts.vze.com to check it out or participate.

*THE KLAXONS will tour the US this spring, stopping at Great Scott in Boston on April 11, Bowery Ballroom on April 10, and in SF at popscene on April 26. The band's album will be released March 27 in the US.

*THE ARCTIC MONKEYS have announced details for their second album. "Favourite Worst Nightmare" will be released on April 23 in the UK, with the US date tba.

*ROB DICKINSON, the velvety voice behind CATHERINE WHEEL and now a solo act, will play a show at the Paradise Lounge on February 26.

*TRAVIS are back with their first album since 2003, titled "The Boy With No Name". It'll be released on May 7 in the UK with no US release date announced yet. The lead single "Closer" hits import bins on April 23.

*Want to join THE WRENS? Got pro chops, pro gear, and a pro 'tude? The legendary New Jersey indie rock band is looking for a fifth member to join them on some songs, which will allow the band to play songs they're unable to do live because there are too many parts for a quartet to pull off. Email 5th_wren@wrens.com and then head over to the band's website www.wrens.com and learn some songs.

*VOXTROT return to Boston, but not until June 14, when they play the Middle East downstairs. The best Britpop Texas has ever given us...

*Catch PAUL WELLER on Conan O'Brien this Thursday, and pick up his new DVD in stores this week.

*Don't feel like driving down to Providence to catch TV ON THE RADIO? Well, by popular demand, the band has announced a Boston show the following day - they'll be at Avalon on March 2.

*CLAP YOUR HANDS SAY YEAH have announced a new US tour, but it's skipping most of the major cities in favor of places like Providence (Lupo's on April 10) and Northampton, MA (Pearl Street on April 11).

*The newly re-formed KULA SHAKER have hopped on the podcast bandwagon, which can be downloaded at http://www.kulashakermusic.com/media/kulashakerpodcast01.mp3

*STELLASTARR* have parted ways with their label, RCA, after two albums together. The band is quoted as saying the management structure of the label has changed drastically since they joined the roster, but I'm sure that weak sales of the band's second album had something to do with it too.

*Missed out on tickets THE PIPETTES at Bowery Ballroom? The band is doing another show in New York the night before (March 12) - check 'em out at the Luna Lounge.

*HOT HOT HEAT will release a new album in May, says the NME.
