*CMJ has posted the full lineup for the CMJ Music Marathon happening on Oct 31 - Nov 4. Head to www.cmj.com, or check the NYC show listings as I've taken the time to narrow it down to about 10 must-see shows per day featuring bands of interest to Brit/indie music fans. Let me know if you're going - I'll be there 11/1-5.

*OASIS will have some competition for their "Stop the Clocks" November 21 release - from THE BEATLES. "LOVE" will feature new versions of classic Beatles tracks. This isn't the first time Oasis and their primary influence have gone head-to-head - the Fab Four released two "new" singles in 1995 around the time "Wonderwall" was blowing up.

*Get ready for new SHINS material - the lead UK single is "Phantom Limb", and it gets a digital UK release on November 13 and a physical release the following week. Expect the track to be available in the US around the same time. "Wincing The Night Away" is out on January 23 in the US.

*BABYSHAMBLES will release a new UK EP on December 4 titled "The Blinding EP", providing Pete doesn't do anything stupid between now and the release date.

*Q Magazine has released its list of nominees for the aptly titled Q Music Awards. ARCTIC MONKEYS, KEANE, SCISSOR SISTERS, RAZORLIGHT, and MUSE lead the way with the most nominations.

*THE KLAXONS, who had planned to play a handful of November US dates, have postponed their stateside visit until early 2007 so they can finish work on their debut album.

*Another set of Brit newcomers, LITTLE MAN TATE, are coming to the states and they'll make their Boston debut on November 5 at Great Scott with THE CHANGES and MONSTERS ARE WAITING.

*SPOON fans might want to check out the "Stranger Than Fiction" soundtrack out on November 7, featuring a score composed partially by BRITT DANIEL, and a new song from the band called "The Book I Write". Also included on the soundtrack are songs by M83, MAXIMO PARK, THE JAM and more. The movie is out on November 10 and stars Will Farrell.

*BRMC are working on their 4th album, due out next year. According to NME the disc will be similar in style to the more rootsy "Howl" album from last year.

*Happy 9th Birthday to "The Pill", which celebrates reaching the cusp
of double digits this Friday at Great Scott. Come early enough and get
a mix CD compiled by the night's DJ's & promoters featuring some of
their favorite jams.

*THE FUTUREHEADS have cancelled their forthcoming US tour due to
singer BARRY HYDE requiring treatment for tendonitis.

*THE BLUETONES cancelled all of their upcoming US shows for
unspecified legal reasons, and no word on whether the dates will be
made up.

*DAVE ROWNTREE of BLUR has a new project called THE AILERONS, who
release their debut EP in the UK on October 16, called "Left Right".

*Lots of big releases came out this week - new discs from THE KOOKS,
THE DEARS, THE KILLERS, DECEMBERISTS and more. Here's an amusing

*The top story at NME this week - BECK's new album "The Information"
is ineligible for the UK charts due to the album's unique packaging,
which violates chart rules against "unfair advantages". Apparently the
lead single "Nausea" is such a dud that the special packaging might be
perceived as the only reason to buy the new disc.

*Chicago's THE CHANGES, who released their debut album "Today is
Tonight" last week in the US, will play a handful of northeast shows,
including October 22 at Paradise Lounge, November 5 at Great Scott,
and October 24 at Maxwell's in Hoboken. More dates tba.

*THE KOOKS will do an in-store performance and signing at Sound Fix in
Brooklyn on October 28 at 2pm. Space is limited to the store's
capacity, so get there early.

*Newcomers CORD release their debut full length "Other People's Lives
Are Not As Perfect As They Seem" is released this week in the UK. Hear
it on British Accents Radio this Sunday evening.

*BRAKES return with their second album, released November 6 in the UK.
The new disc will be called "The Beatific Visions".

*STARSAILOR are coming back for another US tour, but unfortunately
you'll have to pay big bucks and sit in the back row to hear a short
set from the band as they open for James Blunt.

*MOBY will play an intimate show at Tonic in NYC on October 17 to
promote his forthcoming best-of CD "Go".

*SILVERSUN PICKUPS' October 12 show at Mercury Lounge has been moved
to the larger Bowery Ballroom, with the 11th show remaining at
Mercury.

*THE BEES, unfortunately re-named "A Band of Bees" in the US, have a
third album on the way in early 2007 called "Octopus".

*PATTI SMITH returns to the doomed CBGB on October 15 for a now sold
out show, but rumours are flying that BLONDIE will take the stage the
night before.

*THE INCREDIBLE MOSES LEROY released a song a few years ago called
"1983", which is one of the finest slices of dance-worthy indie pop to
be released this decade. Their 2003 album was titled "...become the
soft.lighties", and the band has taken the album's titled to heart.
They're now called THE SOFT LIGHTIES and they've got a new album on
the way and a new EP available online. They'll be playing a handful of
NYC shows in October, including 2 CMJ appearances.
